NATIONAL PARK PERMITS AND CONCESSIONS
Nelson Lakes National Park is a stunningly beautiful place, so it's no surprise people want to celebrate their special occasion with Lake Rotoiti as a back-drop! However, Department of Conservation approval is required for some activities to be undertaken in the park. DOC staff are more than happy to talk with you about these, so don't hesitate to get in touch.
Weddings
A permit is required from DOC to hold weddings anywhere within Nelson Lakes National Park. The permits are free and list the conditions applicable to holding a wedding in the National Park. Contacting DOC staff early in your wedding planning will help your wedding day go smoothly. Contact the DOC Visitor Centre on 03 521 1806 or [email protected] for more information.
Drones
Civil Aviation law requires the user of a drone (or RPA or UAV) to have specific approval from the land owner of manager before using the drone. You must have a concession from DOC to fly a drone (of any size) on public conservation land for any reason, including private and non-commercial use.
